History and Mission
We are called to continue the healing ministry of Jesus by providing compassionate person-centered care. We will respect the dignity of all, with special concern for those who are poor and vulnerable.
Our vision is to be a strong, vibrant Catholic healthcare ministry that is the organization of choice for employees, physicians and patients. We will be mission driven, clinically excellent and financially stable so as to reach out to our community in a holistic manner with primary and secondary healthcare services for all in need, especially those who are poor and vulnerable.
From the spiritual core of our heritage and tradition, we will:
- Partner with physicians and other healthcare providers to improve the health of individuals and the communities we serve.
- Advocate for a more just society that strengthens the fabric of community and respects the dignity of each person.
- Strengthen our relationship with physicians and staff in a manner that promotes personal and professional fulfillment and satisfaction.
- Enhance our market strength and financial
stability through the achievement of service excellence in all areas of care provided.

"Mission Works" is Mount St. Mary's community service initiative. To put our mission and values to work the Hospital staff volunteers their time and talent to participate in community projects.
Our Mission challenges us to be of help and service to all, especially to those in need. The bright teal "Mission Works" shirts signifies our enthusiasm and commitment.
If you or your community organization has a project that you think could be part of Mission Works call Sister Grace Marie Dunn D.C., Vice President for Mission Integration coordinator of the "Mission Works" Initiative at (716) 298-2182.
A part of the Niagara Community for more than a century, Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Health Center began as the "Little House on the Corner" in Niagara Falls in 1907. Founded by the Sisters of St. Francis of Williamsville, at the request of the Bishop of Buffalo, the Hospital provided acute care services to all, especially the poor. In 1965 a new Hospital was opened on a 30 acre campus in Lewiston. Today, Mount St. Mary's, under the sponsorship of Ascension Health continues in that same spirit.
