At the forefront of our medical Imaging Center are two of the most advanced pieces of radiology equipment available today. The Toshiba Aquilion MS 16CT Scanner offers the most precise imaging technology available in Western New York, with 16 "Channels" that enable a wide range of views of any one scan. This new scanner reduces the length of most CT studies from 30 minutes to as few as 10 minutes, which means less patient exposure to radiation. In addition to the CT Scanner, Mount St. Mary's has also added a permanently installed MRI scan system, The Siemen's Magnetom Symphony 1.5T MRI Scan System also reduces patient exposure to radiation, and reduces the typical MRI scan study time from 30 minutes to 10-15 minutes.
Women's Imaging Center:
The dedicated Women's Imaging Suite is also part of the new Women’s Imaging Center. The new facility includes a separate waiting area, three new dressing areas, two new mammography rooms, where women change, wait and get her results, and a private education room. The latest technology, including the LORAD M-IV Platinum Mammography System and the Prodigy DEXA scanner for bone densitometry, makes patient testing more comfortable and imaging more precise. In addition an ImageChecker System which is a computerized-aided detection (CAD) system will digitize a mammogram and analyze it using a proprietary signal processing software. The analysis highlights areas on the mammogram which contain features associated with cancer. The ImageChecker is like a "spell-checker" for medical images. It is designed to assist radiologists in reducing the number of false negative readings resulting from observational lapses, by drawing their attention to areas that may warrant a second review. Thus, the ImageChecker system helps reduce observational oversights and aids radiologists with early detection of breast cancer.
Comfort is key:
Imaging Center & Women's Imaging Suite also includes features to make outpatient visits more convenient and comfortable. The Center includes its own entrance and registration area, convenient parking (South Parking lot), as well as a bright, spacious waiting room exclusively for outpatient use. There are also four dressing and changing rooms, as well as two new handicapped accessible restrooms. And because of the shortened time for CT and MRI studies, patient visits will be shorter and easier to schedule than ever before.
