Mount St. Mary's Is Only Accredited Chest Pain Center in Niagara

Mount St. Mary’s Hospital has earned the designation as an Accredited Chest Pain Center from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care (SCPC). Mount St. Mary's is the first and only hospital in Niagara County with such a prestigious and medically important designation.  WE EARNED RE-ACCREDITATION IN FEBRUARY 2014.

  • Reducing the time from onset of symptoms to diagnosis and treatment
  • Treating patients more quickly during the critical window of time when the integrity of the heart muscle can be preserved
  • Monitoring patients when it is not certain that they are having a heart attack to ensure that they are not sent home too quickly or needlessly admitted to the hospital

Mount St. Mary’s is also working with Catholic Health of Buffalo and its Mercy Hospital Interventional Cardiology Service to bring a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory to Niagara County on Mount St. Mary’s Lewiston Campus.

WHAT SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS IDENTIFY A POTENTIAL HEART ATTACK PATIENT?
  - Chest Discomfort that seems to arise in the center of the chest and lasts for more than a few minutes or goes away and then comes back
  - Discomfort in one or both arms, neck, jaw, or stomach/abdomen.
  - Shortness of Breath that occures with or before the chest discomfort.
  - Breaking Out in a Cold Sweat, Nausea or Light-Headedness that occurs with the chest discomfort.

ATYPICAL SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS MAY OCCUR ESPECIALLY IN WOMEN AND DIABETICS
   - Absence of Chest Pain
   - Shortness of Breath
   - GI Symptoms such as heartburn, nausea and vomiting
   - Back Pain and Jaw Pain
   - Palpitations
   - Anxiety and/or Feeling of Impending Doom

Get to Mount St. Mary’s Hospital Emergency Department right away. 
Do not drive yourself!

 

Mount St. Mary’s is also a Designated Stroke Center by the New York State Department of Health.
