Mount St. Mary's Hospital Laboratory utilizes modern, state-of-the-art analyzers. It is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and the New York State Department of Health. It is staffed twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, by a team of medical technologists, technicians, phlebotomists, and other support personnel under the direction of a Pathologist.
Mount St. Mary's Hospital Laboratory offers a full range of services to meet the diagnostic testing needs of the community. Our services include, but are not limited to, chemistry, hematology, coagulation, transfusion services, therapeutic drug monitoring, microbiology, pathology, urinalysis, serology, and virology.

The outpatient laboratory is accessible through the outpatient entrance at the rear of the hospital (North entrance). Free parking is provided for all areas surrounding the facility.

PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS FOR LABORATORY WORK:
Please check with your insurance company to make sure your outpatient laboratory services are covered if performed by Mount St. Mary's Hospital Laboratory.
Please bring your doctor's order and insurance card.
Fasting is required for lipid profiles, glucose tolerance, comprehensive (CMP) and basic (BMP) metabolic panels, and any other test if specified by your doctor. Fasting patients require a twelve hour fast, small amounts of water only. Medications should be taken as instructed by your doctor.
WHAT TO DO ONCE YOU'RE HERE:
Please report to the Reception desk located in the North entrance lobby of the Outpatient building. Have your physician order and insurance card handy. Once registered, you will be asked to take a seat until called for your laboratory work. Patient registration, test ordering, and specimen collection is performed in one location.
Our goal is to keep your time spent at Mount St. Mary's Hospital to less than thirty minutes. Some times during the day are traditionally busier than others. Early mornings can be busy with all of our fasting patients; other times later in the morning may be quicker if you are not required to fast.
YOUR LABORATORY RESULTS:
All results are mailed or delivered to your physician. Results can also be faxed to your physician at their request. Critical test results are called to your physician immediately.
Cultures can take up to 48 - 72 hours, depending on the bacterial growth.
Preliminary reports are available as work is completed.
