Dear Patient and Family:

You have been scheduled to have your surgery at Mount St. Mary's Hospital. We are offering to you our "Be Our Guest Program" in order to make it easier for your early arrival. This information is provided to act as a guide to follow which identifies necessary pre-operative instructions. These instructions are as follows:

On the day before surgery, eat a light supper that will not upset your stomach.

Snacks and beverages will be provided. However, you must not have anything to eat or drink from 12:00 midnight on the night before surgery.

Take a complete bath or shower at home and shampoo your hair. You may do this here if you choose. Pay special attention to scrub the area where your surgery will be performed. Remove all fingernail polish, toenail polish and jewelry.

Do not smoke or consume alcoholic beverages prior to your arrival as it can interfere with the action of the anesthesia administered.

Pre-op instructions given to you during your pre-op visit and from your physician will be followed also.

You will continue to take medications that you normally take at night while here at Mount St. Mary's. You will be permitted to take your heart medication and blood pressure medication on the morning of surgery with a little water only if you were instructed to do so. You will not take your insulin or diabetic medication on the day of surgery.

As previously instructed, you may bring all dentures, bridge work, glasses and hearing aides. However, all must be removed prior to OR.

During your stay, please leave all valuables at home including credit cards, money and jewelry.
